Birmingham Irish Association staff meet with President Michael D. Higgins

Birmingham Irish Association staff had the opportunity to meet with Irish President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina at a recent reception at Aras an Uachtarain. The visit was organised as part of the first ever Global Civic Forum held in Dublin Castle.

The forum was the brainchild of the Minister of state for Diaspora Affairs, Mr Jimmy Deenihan, T.D.

Since his appointment as Ireland`s first Minister for Diaspora in July of last year, the minister has met with community groups, organisations and individuals, encouraging and promoting Irish culture, sport, heritage and support services set up for the Irish throughout the world.

With this in mind, the Global Civic Forum gave the Irish community worldwide, the opportunity to meet and share common issues and perspectives, to enhance knowledge, best practice and the growth of celebrating Irish Culture globally.
