Birmingham’s record breakers
2015 marks the 60th anniversary of the Guinness World Records first printed edition and we’re pleased to say that Birmingham will feature in the latest edition an impressive number of times.
The largest collection of sheep themed items, fastest robot to solve a Rubik’s Cube and the tightest car parallel parking are just some of the amazing, weird and wonderful records that are held by folk from the area, or have been set in the city.
So to celebrate this record breaking milestone year we’ve collated some our ten favourite records for your enjoyment.

Most push ups in 12 hours

The most push ups completed in 12 hours is 19,325 by Paddy Doyle (UK) at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Birmingham, UK, on 1 May 1989.
Tightest car parallel parking
ALISTAIR MOFFATT, BIRMINGHAM – 08 JANUARY 2015
The tightest parallel park is 7.5 cm (2.95 inch) and was performed by Alastair Moffatt (UK) driving a Fiat 500C. The feat was achieved during the AutoSport International show at the NEC in Birmingham, UK, on 8 January 2015. Read the full story.

The youngest scorer of a treble in British football is Trevor Francis (b. 19 April 1954) aged 16 years 307 days when he scored four for Birmingham City against Bolton Wanderers on 20 February 1971.

The fastest time to solve a Rubik’s Cube (3x3x3) by a robot is 3.253 seconds by CUBESTORMER 3, an ARM-powered LEGO robot built by Mike Dobson and David Gilday (both UK) and demonstrated at the Big Bang Fair in the Birmingham NEC, West Midlands, UK, on 15 March 2014.

David and Katie are competitive ballroom and Latin dancers, who teamed up for the purpose of the record. hey performed different styles of ballroom throughout the attempt, including the quickstep, foxtrot, American smooth and waltz.
