Bishop calls for prayers after four students killed in crash

Bishop Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin has called for prayers for all those affected by a road traffic accident which killed four students near Athy, Co Kildare on Tuesday January 6, 2015.

The crash happened just after 10pm, when a VW Polo being driven by one of the women was seen crossing on to the wrong side of the road, the car is then believed to have turned and was then hit side on by an oncoming VW Transporter.

The four women killed have been named as Ashling Middleton, 19, Chermaine Carroll, 20,  Gemma Nolan, 19, and Niamh Doyle, 19.

Bishop Nulty said, “I was deeply shocked to hear of the deaths of the four young women and the injuries suffered by others involved in the road crash.

“I ask the faithful of the diocese to pray for the deceased, the injured, the bereaved, friends, colleagues, the emergency services, and all those affected by this tragedy.
