Many Harp readers will recall the sad passing of Bridget Ware early this year. Bridget was well known as a licensee for many years, having worked and managed in many pubs in south Birmingham. From the Holy Souls, in Acocks Green, through to The Golden Arrow, the Britannia, Great Western and up until her passing, Bridget worked in the College Arms, Stratford Road, Hall Green.

The Harp, whilst speaking to Danny recently learnt that a Tribute night was being organised to remember Bridget with fondness and that many people were coming together to mark the occasion as a tribute to, as Danny says a ‘very popular lady’.

“I wanted to initiate something in memory of Bridget, said Danny as she was always a great supporter of my charity appeals for many years, in the pubs that she managed and even doing a sponsored parachute jump whilst in her 60’s and offering some of the monies raised in supporting my appeal at the time. She was a lovely person and you certainly don’t forget a lady like that.”

The event in the memory of this special lady is taking place in Scanlons Club, Spring Road, Tyseley. He explained, “We are going to have a great night of music and entertainment at Scanlon’s on Friday October 3rd 2014 with musicians who knew Bridget well, providing the entertainment.

Little Jimmy, Mick Sullivan, Fran the Man, Choke the Chicken and Innisfree are all giving their time to remember Bridget. It’s certainly going to be good with a massive crowd expected. Carole Scanlon and Bridget’s family are all working with me to which I would like to thank, as with all the musicians, who are offering their time.”

Caroline Costello, Bridget’s niece said, “Coming from a big family, Bridget was very family orientated and this showed through all the years in the licensing trade. Wherever she was, Bridget made you feel like part of the family. This is one of the reasons why she was so widely respected and loved by all that knew her. We are all, as a family so pleased that Danny Ryan has wanted to initiate a tribute night for such a nice person.

“We were very pleased when he put the idea to us and we will all be behind him in making the night such a wonderful evening. Thank you Danny.”
