Don Maclean is set to start Knowle Fun Run
By Gabriel Filan
Solihull broadcaster and comedian Don Maclean will be getting the runners on their way at this year’s Knowle Fun Run.
The annual charity run, organised by Knowle & Dorridge Lions, takes place on Sunday May 18.
The event, which has been running for more than three decades, sees the roads of the village of Knowle closed and thousands of people raising funds for a variety of good causes. Don said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to support the five-mile Knowle Fun Run, which I understand has been going for 31 years now, and last year over 2,000 runners from all over the Midlands and beyond raised over £50,000 for charity.
He added: “It’s going to be a really great event with all the proceeds this year going to some really worthy causes – The Brian Tumour Charity, Northleigh House and Vision Care and local causes. “I’m really looking forward to a great day with the Lions and hope that runners will enter on-line to take part before the strict May 11 deadline, we don’t want anyone disappointed do we.”
Fun Run organiser Noel Kinahan said: “Would-be runners should visit our www.knowlefunrun.org.uk website and get their entry in early,
“As well as the four mini-runs this year, there are prizes and trophies to be won by the fastest junior, secondary, adults, veterans and super veterans, men and women, as well as team trophies.”
He added: “Why not get together with three friends or colleagues from work or school and make up a team.
“Or why not dress up in fancy dress and give the spectators around the course a good laugh.”
