Sandwell Irish Society members were pleased to support one of the Mayor of Sandwell’s Charity fundraising events recently – and the Society’s manager was even more pleased to win a wonderful raffle prize!

Some of the Society’s members attended a Charity Bingo Night, one of the events to be held to raise money for the Mayor’s nominated charities, BUDS (Better Understanding of Dementia in Sandwell) and the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital – and a great time was had by all! The event was attended by the Mayor, Councillor Mrs. Linda Horton, the Mayor’s Consort Councillor Roger Horton, the Deputy Mayor of Sandwell Councillor Mrs. Barbara Price and the Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley, Councillor Alan and Mrs. Heather Finch among other civic dignitaries.

The Mayor’s Charity Raffle had some fantastic prizes donated by a number of generous local companies and Siobhan Gorman, Manager of the Society, was delighted to win one of the prizes, £100 worth of Next vouchers.

Siobhan said “We were happy to support the Mayor’s fundraising efforts and enjoyed a really good evening. There was a real buzz about the place and it was great to know that valuable funds were being raised for 2 good causes while many people enjoyed a lovely evening. The Irish are acknowledged as a dementia friendly community, so supporting a charity which itself supports people with dementia, also their families and carers, is close to the heart of our organisation – see separate article about this”.
