Over
150 players and family members from Setanta Gaelic Football Club
took to the stage recently to celebrate an award winning 2005
season of Gaelic football.
Setanta, based in Northfield, rewarded its U8, U10, U12 and U14
players for completing the most successful season in the clubs
history. The club triumphed in U10 Warwickshire ‘B’ Division
and the U13 Feile Peile International Division ‘3’ in
2005 to clinch their first trophies. The Northfield club has flourished
in recent years due to the influx of young players from local schools
and the support of coaches and parents. As a result of the Warwickshire
Schools GAA programme, Setanta can now boast players from St. Brigid’s,
St. Peters, Bournville and St. Thomas Aquinas.
The club have already kicked started preparations for the 2006,
with players refining their skills during indoor practice at Newman
College, Bartley Green before returning to Frankley Beeches Park,
Northfield in April. Setanta will also be looking forward to welcoming
Bandon GAA Club from Cork as part of the Feile Peil International
2006. on the 21st April.
Setanta GFC will be recruiting additional U8-U12 Gaelic football
players for the 2006 season in May, if interested in or you would

Feile
Peile has come a few months early for many youth GAA teams across
Britain and Ireland as Birmingham braces itself for a weekend of
non-stop Gaelic football action in the 2nd Feile Peile International.
Over 450 boys and girls in 38 Gaelic football teams from around
Britain and Ireland will compete in 128 games in what is now
regarded as Britain’s premier youth Gaelic football festival.
The event, will take place on Saturday 22nd (10am to 5pm) and
Sunday 23rd April (9am- 4pm) at playing fields at Holly Lane,
Erdington- kindly provided by Erin Go Bragh GAA club and Erdington
local council.
The boy’s competition will see some of Britain’s most
accomplished teams face visiting Irish teams from Carlow, Meath,
Wicklow, Cork, Dublin, Armagh and Tyrone in a five league qualifying
competition on Saturday 22nd. Each team will play four or five games
to determine final league placings and a place in the Championship
or Shield Divisions on Sunday 23rd. All eyes will be on Feile Peil
International 2005 winners Glen Rovers. The Watford team have re-emerged
onto the county underage scene in recent years with several provincial
honours, a strong team of mentors and a talented group of young players.
Warwickshire, who once again host the event and have ten teams competing
in this years competition, will be pinning its hopes on 2005 U12
champions St. Brendan’s and title contenders Sean McDermott’s
and Connolly’s.
The girl’s competition on Saturday 22nd will see 6 club and
school teams from Warwickshire face visiting teams from Carlow, Wicklow
and Laois in 3 qualifying groups with each team playing four games.
The final league standing in the girl’s competition will
see the top teams enter the championship division and remaining
teams competing in the shield competition on the Sunday 23rd.For
