A
happy Setanta GFC team after a successful year in 2006 |
Birmingham
newest GAA club, Setanta GFC, celebrated a successful 2006 season
recently at an end of season presentation in the Dingle Social
Club in Rubery. Over 40 club players and their families were
in attendance to see individual player, clubman and players player
awards given to members of the Under 10, 12 and 14 Gaelic football
squads.
On the field of the play the Setanta under-10 team clinched 2nd
place in the ‘B’ Division after a closely contested
play-off game with Roger Casements of Coventry. The Setanta under-12
team achieved a very successful 3rd place in the ‘A’ Division
by winning 10 out of 14 games in the Warwickshire GAA league competition.
The Under-14’s combined with local team Connollys and finished
an impressive 4th place in the ‘A’ Division.
Other highlights include five members of the club,Michael Clifford,
John Kenny, Reece Chapman, Sean O’Neil and Aoron Orohoe,
being selected for the Warwickshire GAA county team and Setanta
hosting St. Brogan’s of Cork during the Feile Peile International
2006.
A special thank you must go to club sponsors the Royal Bank of
Scotland and Birmingham Midshires, partner schools St. Brigid’s
and St. Thomas Aquinas, parent committee members and the clubs
youth coaches Mike Mitchell, Noel Clifford and Tony Fahy for a
thriving 2006.
Coaches, players and parents of Setanta GFC will be hoping 2007
will be another successful year. The club will be running an overseas
under-13 tour to Cork in April and with the kind support of the
Irish Youth Foundation will be fielding an under-14 team in league
and championship competition for the very first time.
