Driver fined
David Patterson, a 49-year-old truck driver from Fivemiletown, Co. Tyrone was convicted of careless driving and fined €300 after a bridge collapsed last year.
Patterson drove a truck containing over 200 pigs over Ballinagar Bridge in Co. Kerry, which was not strong enough for the vehicles weight. Approximately 50 pigs died in the incident to which Patterson pleaded guilty.
Airport gets the green light
The plans to extend Dublin Airport's terminal have been approved and work will commence this month.
An Bord Pleanála passed the extension plans for the work that will cost in the region of €55m. The extensions are due to be finished
mid 2009.
Major criminal caught
A 35-year-old man was arrested in Dublin last month in connection with a seizure of 32kg of heroin.
The arrest was made after a surveillance operation performed by the Garda National Drugs Unit and the man detained is believed to be one of Dublin's drug biggest criminals.
The drugs, with a street value over €6m, were recovered after he tried to escape throwing some of the haul from a moving vehicle.
Assets including a BMW and €60,000 has been frozen whilst the investigation continues.
