Look
what I’ve got – some Roses from a Rose! |
A
special visitor attended a Christmas Tea Dance organised recently
by Sandwell Irish Society – and delivered Roses to everyone
there. Fortunately, or un-fortunately, depending on whether you
prefer chocolates or flowers, they were the sweet variety, but
the delivery was definitely done by a Rose.
Sandwell’s first ever Rose of Tralee, Kelly Bench, dropped
in for a visit – and what a treat it was to receive Roses chocolates
from a Rose! Kelly had taken time off from the First Steps Nursery
she manages at Shireland Language College in Smethwick to attend
the Tea Dance – and everyone thought Father Christmas would
be the Special Visitor! You can see from the photos that everyone
was delighted to see Kelly instead and enjoyed having their photo
taken with her!

The
Tea Dance at St. Michael’s Church Hall, West Bromwich,
was organised by Siobhan Gorman from Sandwell Irish Society and
Kath Bench, the Physical Activity Outreach Worker for the Irish
community, as part of the Active Sandwell project, which aims
to improve our health and well-being by keeping fit and active.
Music was provided by Little Jimmy, and Dean McCabe gave a wonderful
display of Irish dancing. The 3 D’s, Dean, Dougie and Dermot,
sang a few lively songs (not all at once, but they would certainly
sound very good together!) and Laura Gorman rushed from school
to sing a few more.
The dance was a great success, and the hall was filled to capacity
with 85 people in attendance. A lovely buffet prepared by Kath,
including a selection of fresh fruit, was enjoyed by everyone.
Look out for details of the next Tea Dance to be held in Great
Barr at the beginning of February. Please telephone Siobhan at
Sandwell Irish Society on 0121 525 0567 if you are interested in
attending – she
will be pleased to hear from you.
