Skyscraper for Dublin
A skyscraper which will tower over the Dublin skyline has received the green light from the planning authorities. The 32 storey building will be almost three times the height of Liberty Hall, Dublin’s well known landmark. The new building will be part of a 8.5 acre development beside Heuston Station.
At its highest point of 140m, the skyscraper will tower over the spire on O’Connell Street and have a striking impact on the city-scape.
At one of the gateways to the capital an Board Pleanala was said to be “particularly taken” by the tower in the wider design for the area and granted permission despite objections from the Irish Georgian Society, the Friends of Kilmainham and An Taisil. This does not open the door to similar high rise developments, or at least not yet, but it will be a spectacular sight in the city.
