Tea-Party Raises Money for Hospice
By Patrick McCool

Some of the residents from Clara House who helped make the Tea Party such a successful occasion. Maureen, Joanne and Michelle thank them all for their help and particiaption in the event

Tea at 3 is a National Campaign held across the country for organisations to raise money for their local hospice. Clara House, a Supported Accommodation Provider in Kings Heath, Birmingham decided last month to get everyone involved, including staff and residents.
Joanne McLoughlin, Manager of Clara House, said, “My parents, Peter and Maureen Mohan (Proprietors of Clara House) thought this was a great opportunity for all of us to have a good old fashioned tea-party and raise much needed money for one of our local hospices. We had one or two disasters with the baking, but I won’t say which one of us was responsible.” I reckon her Dad Peter was the guinea pig and chief taster!
Maureen with daughters Joanne and Michelle baked an array of cakes and other gooodies much to the delight of everyone concerned. The residents then paid for their afternoon tea, and low and behold raised a fabulous £450.
Joanne and the rest of the family and staff should be very proud of their afternoon's work.
The cheque was presented to St. Mary's Hospice in Birmingham, which was gratefully recieved.

Price of Petrol Set To Hit All-Time High This Summer
Motorists are being warned that petrol prices in Ireland are set to reach an all-time high before the end of the summer, breaking the previous record of almost €1.03 per litre.
Figures, released show that the average price of petrol for this month stands at €101.9 per litre. But news of shortages in home-heating oil and the strong performance of the US dollar against the euro have sparked fears of even more increases.
“Further prices increases are absolutely expected and it is almost certain that in the next couple of months petrol prices will surge to reach a new all-time high.” said AA’s Conor Faughnan
As it stands, the average price is now just 0.8¢ off the highest ever price per litre of €102.7, which was reached last November.
While this month’s average price is slightly down from May’s €102.4. Mr Faughnan said the current figures were not reflecting such problems as oil surges and currency changes.
“Worse is most definitely going to come over the coming weeks and months. We can predict with real certainty that petrol prices will go up. While they have remained steady for June, we can absolutely expect more increases to come”.
