Being a member is not just a pipe-dream
By Bill Grigg
Firstly a huge thanks to The Harp for the articles that were put in last month’s edition. We are incredibly fortunate that there is a community focused and driven paper where we can both advertise ourselves and let you have an insight into the band and its workings. In the last issue we asked for new members to come forward and we are still asking. The reason we need new blood is that we do undertake a lot of functions, (far more than any other Pipe Band that I know), and it is hard for the members that we have to attend all that we are asked to attend...More

Hugh McCallion
By Joan Cunningham
In the past, he’s been described as a veteran by the press and each time, I’ve questioned whether they are referring to former Birmingham councillor, Hugh McCallion, as being long experienced in the political world or that he’s an old soldier who has seen long service. State burial for Haughey
Former Taoiseach Charles Haughey passed away on the 13th of June aged 80. He had a state funeral send off in Dublin to which received mixed views. Some people thought it served him justice and was deserved, whilst others believed that for him to receive a state funeral was a disgrace.
Haughey was a leading figure within Irish politics for many years until his career ended after it was discovered that he had abused his office to his own financial gain.
Ireland’s riches
Ireland is the second richest County in the European Union being beaten to the post by Luxembourg. This statistic has recently been released from Eurostat. The data also reveals that the financial gap between new EU members and the old is closing in.
New routes to Ireland
There are new routes to Ireland launched by Aer Arann. The new routes include services from Cork to Galway and from Cork and Galway to Leeds Bradford airport in West Yorkshire. The new scheduled flights have arisen after demand from business passengers wishing to commute within Ireland and overseas on daily journeys.
