Language secured
PM Gordon Brown has made a pledge of £6m for broadcasting the Irish language in Northern Ireland. The future of Irish language programmes looked uncertain after 2009 without additional funding.
New arrivals in Dublin
Dublin zoo enjoyed a busy month in June with the arrival of three new exhibits.
A baby white rhino was the first animal to make an appearance, followed by a giraffe and then a California sea lion, which were all born at the popular tourist attraction.
Drink drive arrest
Fianna Fáil politician of Cork South West, Christy O'Sullivan, 59 was arrested last month upon a drink driving suspicion. The TD was stopped at a checkpoint in the county and is said to be extremely apologetic and embarrassed.
Rally death
The Donegal International Rally was called to a halt after a spectator was hit by a car and killed. The 18 year-old died at the scene on Saturday 14th of June outside of Letterkenny. At time of print, investigations were taking place.
