Solihull Scorpions enjoy Irish Sponsorship

Local junior football team the Solihull ‘Scorpions’ set off to the Spring Bank Holiday Football tournament in Great Yarmouth at the end of May with a new kit sponsored by the Irish Store in Yardley, Birmingham.
The young team members were delighted to have the scorpion design and the Irish Store logo on their new kit. The club started in 2004 and have gone from strength to strength finishing in 5th place out of twelve last seasons Central Warwickshire Youth League.
The club celebrated the end of the season with player awards; the top goal scorer was Mark Ray, player of the season was Jack Cunniam, supporters player of the season was Jamie Hay, most improved player was David Allbones, most improved newcomer was Sam Wilkes and a good sport award went to Joshua Bowie.
The team, which practices at Sheldon Country Park every Sunday was looking for a sponsor when the Irish Store stepped in to help. The Irish Store based in Yardley is a stockist of Irish produce supplying everything from red Lemonade to cold meats.
The Scorpions team manager, Peter Hay said, “ We have a superb team of young, enthusiastic and talented players who train and equally play hard. We all would like to thank The Irish Store’s owner Kathy Cunniam for her generosity”.

Cocaine stopped in Cork
Approximately €300,000 worth of cocaine has been seized at Cork Airport. Two German passengers tried to smuggle the drugs into Ireland by concealing the packages within the lining of their suitcases.
No mountain too high
Hannah Shields from Co. Derry has become the first Northern Irish woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. She succeeded as art of a team after a failed attempt a few years ago. Mount Everest is the highest mountain on earth and was formed approximately 60 million years ago.
Britvic is the buyer
Irish drinks company C&C has sold its soft drinks, Ballygowan water, Club Orange, Club Energise and MiWadi to Britvic.
Britvic, the UK drinks retailer now has the largest portfolio of products in the UK.
Teenage tragedy
A fifteen-year-old boy died after being rescued off the coast of Derry.
Tragedy struck after two teenagers were in a dingy that capsized near to Coleraine. One of the youngsters managed to swim ashore and raise the alarm. The other youngster was rescued by a coastguard helicopter but died later in hospital.
