Goodbye Bertie
Ireland's former Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern performed his last duty on the Wednesday the 7th of May when he lead the government at the commemoration of the Arbour Hill Easter Rising. The final appointment was commented as a 'fitting' end to the Taoiseach's reign, which throughout his time in office, he campaigned for peace. Tánaiste Brian Cowen has stepped into the role of Ireland's 12th Taoiseach.
Drinking and driving?
The Irish Road Safety Authority has published a report that calls for harsher drinking-drive limits.
After an extensive study, the recommendations for blood alcohol levels for drivers are 50mg, with suggestions of enforcing lower levels for learner drivers, and commercial and public vehicles. The current legal limit is 80mg.
