Eu Free Up Firework Sales
Plans by the European Union to free up the sale of fireworks across member states will result in increased injuries in Ireland according to a senior civil servant. An EU directive could come into force within eighteen months which will allow the free sale of fireworks across member states. The effect of loosening up regulations on the sale of fireworks will increase the chance of accidents according to Tom Lynch from the Department of Justice.
Currently Ireland has some of the most stringent laws in EU regarding fireworks and only allows them to be used in major displays. Ireland and Greece hold similar views on firework sales and have the lowest recorded rates of accidents in the EU.
Have Shamrock - Will Travel
Ministers and Ministers of State are making a mass exodus to shower shamrock on the four corners of the world. The Taoiseach will be representing the national trefoil to President Bush who will wear a green tie for the White House occasion. Other ministers will be reviewing parades and boosting Irelands profile from Dubai to Moscow and Estonia to Argentina.
