Breaking world records may be all in a day's work for iron man Paddy Doyle, but the Solihull College tutor admits his latest endeavour left him well and truly worn out.
Paddy took the World Fitness Champion record on Monday February 27, encouraged by students from the college's sports therapy and access to the military courses.
Students also offered practical help with pacing exercises and stretching, massage and injury support. The record was previously held by American Rob Powell, who completed the marathon fitness challenge in 18hrs 15mins and point two of a second. But Paddy knocked more than an hour of the previous record with a time of 17hrs 12mins and .33 of a second.
In that time he swam two miles, completed a 20-mile row, ran ten-and-a-quarter miles, did 20-and-a-quarter miles on a cross-trainer, completed a ten-mile speed march and did a a 100-mile-plus cycle ride.
He also managed 550 star jumps, 3100 sit-up crunches, 505 hanging leg lifts and lifted weights totalling 300,000lbs.
He broke the record at the Living Well health club in Birmingham's Brindley Place.
Paddy said: "The support was excellent but it was tough going. I was supported by students from Solihull College and they were brilliant. They were behind me all the way and really got me through the last hour."
Paddy, who also holds the title of World's Fittest Man, now holds a total of 135 records, a mixture of world, European, British and regional records.
Speaking after completing the challenge, he said: "I have to confess I am absolutely worn out and feel like I could sleep for a week."
