Shell to Sea
The Shell protest in Dublin regarding the plans for Co. Mayo saw approximately 800 people take to the streets and attend on the 24th of February 2007. The Shell to Sea protest is calling for the proposed Shell project to be built offshore saving valuable arable land.
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions also supported the campaign. The protest started on Parnell Square and disbanded outside the GPO in Dublin.
Belt up
A recent study performed by the European Transport Safety Council revealed that car users in Ireland are slower that other European countries to use their seatbelts.
According to the report only 85% of drivers in Ireland buckle up in the front seats.
Germany led the way with the most conscientious drivers using their seatbelts.
Priest Shot
Father Kieran Creagh from Belfast was shot twice whilst working with Aids sufferers in a hospice in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The reason for the attack is not known and Father Creagh is said to be in a stable condition.
