Ireland ablaze
Emergency services were stretched in mid April attending to forest and bog fires in Connacht, Ulster and Leinster, with at least 20 fires in Galway alone.
Fire crew’s around the country reported that the fires are the worst Ireland has seen for many years.
The causes are thought to be the spell of dry weather and people burning gorse off the land.

Brothel Manager jailed
Deena Edridge from Co. Kildare is the first woman jailed in Ireland for organising prostitution in Dublin.
Deena was paid €50,000 to manage the brothel which had up to six girls and a receptionist working at any one time. The brothel which operated under various different names was run out of an apartment and clients were charged €220 for an hour.

Galway water issue continues
Galway City Manager Joe McGrath has ruled out the provisions of free water to Galway residents.
A letter was circulated to city councillors, pointing out that free water was not an option because the authority would not be able to keep tabs on it. Joe McGrath was worried that it would wipe out sales for water companies.
