Tiredness Kills
Research published in October pointed out that up to as many as 200 people may have been killed in car accidents in Ireland over the last five years that have been primarily caused by tiredness and falling asleep at the wheel. This figure was released to coincide with the winter safety campaign that is due to start, reminding drivers about road safety.
It has been stated that driving whilst tired is almost as bad a drink driving, as driver reactions are slow and judgement is impaired. It is recommended that tired drivers take a break, have a cup of coffee, and get some fresh air and rest before continuing their journey.
Airline Hidden Charges
Low cost airlines such as Aer Lingus and Ryanair may be banned from advertising cheap flights without displaying the current hidden costs for taxes and luggage charges.
Representatives of the Department of Transport revealed the plan during a meeting of the Oireachtas European Affairs Committee. It was encouraged to introduce this requirement before an EU regulation was activated and forced the issue.
