Birmingham Comhaltas success in Tullamore

A
young musician from South Birmingham Comhaltas is celebrating after
claiming honours at the All Ireland Fleadh in Tullamore, County
Offaly.
Matthew Murphy, aged 12, earned a 2nd place in the All Ireland Piano
Accordion competition.
Matthew was one of many talented young traditional Irish musicians
from Birmingham who flew the flag for the city at the August fleadh.
A group of South Birmingham musicians represented the British Province
in the 12 to 15 years ceili band competition
South Birmingham Comhaltas are enjoying one of their most successful
years on record.
The band is already picking up engagements to play at events in the
Birmingham area and is set to play at the Irish concert at the renovated
Birmingham Town Hall on Sunday October 14.
Matthew had a very busy fleadh, playing in the piano accordion competition
and in duets.
Vince Jordan from South Birmingham Comhaltas said: "This was
a great achie-vement for Matthew. There were no other places but
I can say that each and every Birmingham musician did us proud."
