TWO
readers of The Harp, sisters Eileen Banks, and Pauline Hughes would
like to take part in the The Aviva Weekend to breakthrough breast
cancer in September this year.
The aim of the 60km walk, which takes place over two days, is to
raise money for breast cancer research.
One of the conditions of participating in the event is that each
walker raises a minimum of £1,500 and it is for this reason
that they are asking for your support. Thankfully neither sister
nor any of their families or friends have been affected by the illness
but they are some of the lucky ones. According to Breakthrough Breast
Cancer one in nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in
her lifetime.
If you identify with the illness in some way, perhaps you or a family
member have been affected by breast cancer; you can show your support
by making a donation to this worthy cause.
Pauline successfully completed the London Marathon in April this
year and raised £1,500 for ‘Shelter’ and is therefore
a little reluctant to ask for money for another cause but the Aviva
walk actually takes place on her late Mother in law’s birthday,
Amy, and that is what inspired her to take part in the event.
Eileen and Pauline would both be more than happy to dedicate their
efforts in memory of those loved ones who have lost their lives to
this devastating illness.
The determined sisters will be holding a raffle at the Erdington
Co-op on Saturday 26th August to raise money for the event. They
have already received a donation from ‘Businesspost’ of £50,
and will be raffling complimentary leisure tickets received from
Wyndley Leisure Centre, two match tickets received from Aston Villa
and a Hamper, which they are donating themselves.
St. Mary & St. John’s RC Catholic Church also very kindly
organised a non-uniform day with all proceeds going towards the event.
Both Sisters would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the
management at the St. Mary & St. John’s Club for their
outstanding support towards the fundraising activities for such a
worthy cause.
So, if you would like to support this incredible adventure by making
a donation to Eileen and Pauline simply visit the Aviva website on
www.breakthroughweekend.org or telephone Aviva on 0870 950 8888.
It is quick and easy to make a donation online.
Whatever amount you choose to give, your donation will not only be
greatly assisting the necessary breakthrough into treating and one
day preventing breast cancer, but will also be giving the girls personal
encouragement and hope needed to achieve this very high goal.
