Meeting and greeting: The Irish Post’s Birmingham Breakfast
The annual Irish Post traditional breakfast in Birmingham is always one of the highlights of St Patrick’s Festival week-especially when it’s later washed down with ice-cold Guinness or Bucks Fizz!
The event now takes place at the MacDonald Burlington Hotel in the city centre-although it was first instigated at Birmingham City Council`s Banqueting Suite more than 17 years ago by Brendan Farrell.
Guests included the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Ray Hassall, Caroline Savage from the Embassy of Ireland and Elgin Loane, owner of The Irish Post who was accompanied by key staff members.
Added entertainment this year included a display of Irish dancing from the local McCarron Academy, plus long time musicians John and Carmel Burke. Derryman Bob Brolly, who normally acts as MC for the breakfast was not able to be present due to work commitments in Cyprus.
Local girl Maria Cleary, a former Rose of Tralee took on the role as MC and everybody complimented her on the professional way she interviewed guests and got the entire attendance involved in the atmosphere of the event.
