The first stages of planning of ever popular St. Patrick’s Festival in Birmingham are well underway as Director Anne Tighe announced recently. She told us, “The theme for 2015 is Irish contribution to Birmingham.

“This theme is very fitting for 2015,” Anne explained. “As Jaguar and Land Rover are celebrating a number of anniversaries in 2015 and the car industry employed thousands of Irish people over the years, it is one of many influences of the theme. The Irish have made a major contribution to Birmingham’s development and growth and we want to celebrate it.

“Amongst other activities, we are planning a photographic exhibition and would like to ask for photographs from the Irish community.

“Last year we had an exhibition of photos from previous parades.

“I would like to do one this year on the impact of the Irish in Birmingham.

“Why did people choose Birmingham to settle? What made them stay? How did they come to do the jobs they performed so well? If we don’t document this now, this rich and valuable history will be lost.”
