Birmingham-based actor lands voice role in hit movie
Birmingham-based actor, voice artist and producer Sean Connolly, is one of the voices that can be heard in the big screen outing for Aardman’s highly successful television series Shaun the Sheep.
Shaun the Sheep the Movie enjoyed a glitzy ‘Green’ carpet, Leicester Square premiere towards the end of January, with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Andy Serkis in attendance.
The film has already garnered 4-star reviews from the Daily Telegraph, the Guardian, the Radio Times and Empire, well before its imminent release.
Sean said: “I celebrated 25 years as an actor last year and the Leicester Square event was in my first red carpet premiere.
“From conception to screen has taken Aardman about three years. Watching the film, I can say, it’s been completely worth the wait.”
Sean revealed the project got underway around a year ago, but he was sworn to secrecy about his involvement until recently.
He said: “My involvement with the voices started about a year ago. I had previously worked with Aardman on their Claymation television series Rex the Runt about a decade ago, so when I got the call about the Shaun the Sheep movie, I was delighted.
“If you count up all the characters I’ve voiced, there are about ten, with two or three of them, whilst not being principal characters are featured throughout the film.”
Asked what he thought of the finished product, Sean said: “It was very special to see the finished film. It’s been suggested that it might have been a risk for Aardman to extend a seven minute programme to a full feature.
“Well, writers and directors Richard Starzak and Mark Burton have pulled it off with ease. I believe they have made something quite outstanding.
“I can’t wait to see it again and catch the sight gags I missed on my first viewing. It’s definitely a film that will reward multiple viewings.
* Shaun the Sheep the Movie is released on February 6 across the UK.
