Seven of the borough’s mini recycling centres will close this October, Solihull Council has announced.

By Thursday 31 October, mini recycling centres at the following sites will be closed:
- Black Boy Public House, Warwick Road, Knowle
- Chelmsley Wood British Legion, Clopton Crescent, Chelmsley Wood
- Colebrook Public House, Haslucks Green Road, Shirley
- Football Development Scheme, Tanworth Lane, Shirley
- Parkfield Drive Shops, Parkfield Drive, Castle Bromwich
- The Bear Public House, Berkswell Road, Berkswell
- Wyndley Garden Centre, Warwick Road, Knowle

Posters have already been displayed at each of the sites advising of their imminent closure and giving details of the nearest alternative mini recycling centre.

Councillor Mrs Kate Wild, Cabinet Member for Environmental and Community Services, said: “We know from the results of our regular customer satisfaction surveys that there has been a general decline in the use of mini recycling centres over the past four years. This has also coincided with the improvements we have made to our kerbside recycling service.

“The sites that are closing have been chosen based on how often they are used, how much recyclable material we collect from them and the cost to taxpayers to manage the sites and remove fly-tipping.”

The Council will monitor the closed sites for a six-week period after they close and will remove any fly-tipped material that accumulates in that time.

After the closure of these seven sites, there will still be a further 17 mini recycling centres across the borough – residents can search for their nearest mini recycling centre at www.solihull.gov.uk/wasteandrecycling.
