Spotlight on Patrick Feeney
Patrick Feeney has been gifted with one of the finest tenor voices of his generation with a particular aptitude for big Irish ballads and spiritual music. However, this talented young singer can also belt out country and Irish music numbers as well as contemporary music with the best of them. In addition, he is a multi instrumentalist – playing the piano, drums, and accordion and currently on the crest of a wave with a full diary of dates both nationally and internationally.
Patrick is a native of Culfadda near Sligo City who now lives in the village of Gurteen. As a child his home was steeped in music – his Father Patrick is also a well known country musician who gigged all over Sligo and beyond for over three decades.
At the age of 14, Patrick began playing in the Band with his Dad. After leaving school he began studying sales and marketing in Sligo after which he was employed by Cadburys. However, the love of music and performing was irresistible to the young Sligo man, and he soon left his job to concentrate completely on his music career. Promoter Kevin MCooey spotted his potential and quickly signed him to front the Johnny Loughrey Band with whom he recorded a few singles.
Patrick’s musical influences are many and varied. He cites country and Irish as one of the first genres he was introduced to, however he also likes the music of Westlife and Boyzone, as well as Imelda May and Michael Buble.
Patrick pays tribute to Daniel O’Donnell who he says has been a huge inspiration and help to him since he started out on his musical journey.
A series of hugely popular albums have copper fastened this young singing stars popularity; If This Aint Love, Thanks to You, Young Country, Take Care of you for me, Gentle on my mind, This is me, and his latest – Living Life, Loving You – all Patrick’s albums showcase his fabulous singing voice at it’s best. In addition, Patrick’s debut DVD, The Story So Far, contains 14 music videos with interview links from the Sligo singer. Also added as a bonus feature are some hilarious outtakes from the DVD shoot.
Patrick has enjoyed so many highlights in his music career to date; Sell out Tours of Ireland and the UK, Music Holidays where he invites his fans to join him in the Costa Del Sol, as well as being honoured with the prestigious DVD of the Year 2011 title, as voted for by Sunday World readers.
Patrick is renowned for his rousing live performances, credibility and passion that he brings to all the songs he performs.
Another facet of this gifted young artist which may not be so well known to those who have seen him perform live is his gift for humour which comes across so well in his shows.
Patrick and his Band have performed on all the major TV Shows – The Late Late, Nationwide, Ireland AM, Seoige and O’Shea, The Daniel O’Donnell Show and the 7.30 Show on UTV. He cites singing live at the Rose of Tralee Festival as one of the highlights of his career; “I felt really privileged because it’s one of the biggest festivals in Ireland, and The Rose of Tralee Song is one of the first I ever learned,” Patrick remarked.
Of course, readers will also be familiar with the music of the Three Amigos of whom Patrick is one. Robert Mizell and Jimmy Buckley are the other two talented artists who make up the trio with Patrick. Together, their vocal arrangements have given a whole new dimension to numerous country and Irish favourites. The trio have enjoyed huge success with a series of concert tours throughout Ireland as well as numerous international appearances.
Patrick is much in demand as a soloist in Church at Weddings for his remarkable tenor voice. He has won many prestigious awards over the years and is a versatile and experienced performer.
