Urgent call for volunteers to back beautiful Lantern Walk for Acorns
An urgent appeal has been issued for volunteers to support Acorns’ beautiful Lantern Walk.
Supporters of Acorns Children’s Hospice will be joining the atmospheric walk carrying lanterns on October 12, at Walsall Arboretum, to raise funds toward vital services for hundreds of life limited and life threatened local children.
The moving event will see the lanterns reflected in the lake, carried by dozens of walkers and families, as they head through the trees on the 5km mini route around the Arboretum, or the main 12km walk to the hospice in Walstead Road and back. Both routes are wheelchair and buggy friendly.
The walkers, each carrying their own battery operated lantern, will be cheered home by Free Radio’s drive-time show presenters, Jo & Sparky, with live music set in the bandstand – and an electrifying laser light display on the water.
Acorns’ events manager Laura Heathfield said: “We really appreciate the time and energy volunteers give – the event would simply be unable to run without them. This event offers people the chance to make a difference to a local cause, as we urgently need more people to help marshal the course and help walkers to register, give out refreshments along the route and medals at the finish line. We would love to hear from volunteers who can help make the event a huge success. No experience is needed just lots of enthusiasm!
“This will be an inspirational day, where people have a great time supporting a really worthy cause. We’re hoping to raise enough money to pay for care at all three Acorns hospices for a day.”
The event is supported by Legal & General and First Personnel and all monies raised will go directly towards funding the £8 million plus a year it costs to run the three hospices.
